We are beginning a month(s) long series looking at Ezekiel. More specifically, we are engaging Ezekiel in such a way, that we might see and experience Jesus differently in the book of John. (We'll explain later). So, as starting place, on this week's episode we sat down to talk a bit about the Old Testament prophets. We examine some of our misconceptions, our first impressions and what it might mean to see the world through the lens offered by Ezekiel. Oh yeah, and then there are dung cakes.
Here's the quote from Walter Brueggemann mentioned in this episode:
“[A prophet is] someone that tries to articulate the world as though God were really active in the world. And, that means on the one hand, to identify those parts of our world order that are contradictory to God, but on the other hand, it means to talk about the will and purpose that God has for the world that will indeed come to fruition even in circumstances that we can’t imagine. So, what that gives you is both judgement and hope, and as you know very well, the prophetic books of the Old Testament are always that combination of judgement and hope, which I think, in Christian tradition, factors out as crucifixion and resurrection.”
